  • Error when processing corrupt ACT! Meetings
    • This error comes up when activities in ACT! have a non-valid Start Time. This is especially true when activities were synchronized directly from Outlook To ACT! using either ACT! built-in synchronizer or third party products. This has now been fixed. The activity gets synchronized but the start date/time is the ACT! default.

    • This is a big one. On certain exchange environments, ACT-Outlook Synchronizer could not retrieve the SMTP Email Addresses from the Exchange-Email Addresses on an Outlook Contact. This was primarily when creating NEW contacts from Exchange back to ACT!. This is fixed. The exchange environment is fully supported.

  • Bug/Improvement
    • Independent Appointments and Tasks from Outlook we not being transferred to the assigned contact in ACT! when the synchronizer runs in the background. This issue has been fixed.
    • Activities in ACT! (calls, meetings, todos) that did not have an assigned contact in ACT! were purposely being skipped by the synchronizer since these items are actually corrupt ACT! items. However, to our surprise, there are a lot of ACT! databases with corrupt Activities items. So now instead of ignoring the item, we create an independent Outlook item with no contact affiliation. This resembles more closely the ACT! environment in Outlook.
    • When the StatusID field is matched to the Categories, changes made in Outlook would not come back. That has been fixed.
    • 3 new FileAs Options have been created: Lastname, Remainder; Lastname, Remainder - Company, and Lastname, Remainder Company. This seems to be a far better way to File ACT! contacts into Outlook than Lastname, Firstname since Firstname in ACT! is mostly incorrect in most databases and results in some pretty ugly filing conventions.

  • Bug Fixes
    Due to some great input from one customer in Canada and another customer in Switzerland, we managed to fix some Appointments and Task translation issues. Thank you for the precise and insightful input.:
    • Alarm Reminders from ACT to Outlook Calendar were not being transferred properly and the lead time was being reset to zero. Fixed. All alarms and lead times are maintained between ACT! and Outlook Calendar in either environments.
    • Subject Line Tags were being removed when Outlook appointments were being updated from ACT! (not new appointments, but existing ones). Fixed. All appointments now keep the tags in Outlook when updated.
    • Alarm and Lead times reminders were not being transferred from Tasks to Todo's in ACT!. Fixed. All lead times and reminders are now transferred both ways.
    • Update manual with explanations of the issues above.

    Added a background processing manager that resides in the system tray.

    Activity Tagging: Added Activity Tagging so that activities that are brought over to Outlook have additional information (name, phone-number, type of activity) in the Activity Subject Line. Great enhancement for PDAs. The tagging names can be changed to whatever suits your fancy or language.

    This is a major upgrade with additional executables and files. To upgrade from any version of ACT-Outlook Synchronizer, you must do the following:
    • Make a backup of your Outlook .pst and your ACT!
    • Uninstall the current version of ACT-Outlook Synchronizer.
    • Re-Install Version 6.9 of ACT-Outlook Synchronizer.
    • Remove all the items in your Outlook Folder using the Clean Outlook Tool.
    • Run ACT-Outlook Synchronizer. This will synchronize all the data with your Outlook.

    Major rewrite of the kernel resulted in an increase in processing time when synchronizing an updated database by about 1500%. In our test, we can update a 4000 contact database with contact data, activity data and history in about 2 minutes!!!

September 10, 2004 Version 6.5.2 - Major Release

We tested the software with 4000+ records and it worked like a charm. By far our most reliable release to date. To upgrade you will need to save syncdata.mdb and then copy it back to the installation folder.

  • New Features.
    - Added support of user specific Outlook profiles for users that have multiple profiles.
    - Call and Todo's can now be added to the Outlook Calendar when synchronizing.
  •  Improvements.
    - Reliability fixes and a new index engine eliminated the "Record Locked" error.
  • Bug Fixes.
    - The source for error message "Record Locked" was found and fixed.
    - Calendar Only conversion identified the same contact multiple times and would sync the same contact multiple times. Now it only synchs the contact once resulting on faster conversions.
    - Fixed an issue with Outlook Notes being overwritten by ACT! notes when updating existent contacts. This would happen when a combination of Outlook Updates would come in conflict with ACT! updates.
    - Fixed the import of new Outlook Reoccurring  task and calendar items into ACT!. The time was not being set properly. It now works.
  • How to Upgrade.
    This upgrade is free for existing ACT-Outlook Synchronizer customers. You must save the file syncdata.mdb before uninstalling the software. Install the new copy from our web into your system.

    When you've done installing, copy the syncdata.mdb file to your folder and start the software.

September 1, 2004 Version 6.4.1 -

We keep adding improvements to the product at customer's request. The list of bugs has been reduced significantly to only a few known issues and the software is running well. Reliability Testing has been the primary focus on this release.

  • New Features.
    - Implemented the capability of Multi-Contact ACT! Activities to Multi-Contact Outlook Activities. Previously, the activity would only be matched to the first contact in the list, now the activity is matched to all contacts in the list, hence true 1-to-1 and Many-to-Many synchronization.
    - Implemented a true FileAs methodology so that first name, last names and company names are appropriately dealt with. This is because ACT! does not handle middle names and/or confuses the firstname and lastname positions in a database. The synchronizer now has it's own firstname/lastname handler.
  •  Improvements.
    - Changed the synchronization of the Contact Body Text/History. The data is now merged between the contacts in ACT! and Outlook without a contact's history overwriting the matching contact. This means that even if there are changes in ACT! AND Outlook, the fields get overwritten by the dominant database but the Contact Body Text gets merged with the contact's history in ACT!.
    - Performance.
  • Bug Fixes.
    - Issues with FirstName and LastName being incorrectly mapped into Outlook were fixed with the new features added.
    - Fixed the issue of removing contacts from ACT! when they are removed from Outlook. It was not working properly and would stop the software prematurely without informing the user.
    - Fixed an issue of the software stopping prematurely when synchronizing.
    - Fixed an issue where end of database records would be ignored on certain conditions.
    - Fixed support for International Dates on the filters. A fatal error was generating when the dates were being selected. It has now been fixed.
    - Reversed the interpretation of ordering of the ACT! history in Outlook. Descending now means from most current to oldest, as it should.
    - Bug fixed on Groups to Categories conversion. Subgroups now map properly. This bug would only happen when the sync ran a second time on the same database on changed contacts.
